CocoPits FAQ's

Q: How do I push up the Eco Stick?

A: Your new Eco Stick may be a little tight the first time you use it. For the initial push-up, you may have to break the seal. You can do this by firmly rolling the stick on the counter with your palm a few times back and forth. This will release the deodorant from the sides of the tube and enable the stick to be easily pushed up as needed going forward.

Q: How do I apply it?

A: For our jar paste formula, apply a small dab using fingertips to clean armpits and gently rub until lightly coated. Do not rub excessively, especially into freshly shaven pits. Do not reapply until pits are clean. DO NOT OVER-APPLY. You only need a small, pea-sized dab.

For the stick version, 1-3 gentle swipes is generally all that is needed. No need to apply multiple layers. In cooler conditions, you may need to hold the stick in your armpit for a couple seconds for easier glide on application.

Q. Is this also an antiperspirant?

A. There are some minor antiperspirant properties in CocoPits. The arrowroot will help absorb sweat, but not keep you from sweating. You may notice a decrease in your perspiration but it is not the basis for this formula. It is important for your body to release toxins through the glands in the armpits and we don’t want to interfere with this natural process. The deodorant will be very effective in keeping you from having odor, as a deodorant should.

Q. How much should I apply?

A. You only need a very small dab – about the size of a small pea, if that. Simply dab a little bit on your finger and gently rub into freshly cleaned pits. Do not rub excessively. And, if you're using the stick, only swipe once or twice. The summer months may require 3-4 swipes. Go about your day with confidence!

Q. What is the wooden stick used for that came with my deodorant?

A. When your CocoPits gets to the bottom of the jar, you can use this stick to pull the rest of the paste to the side of the jar to make it easier to access. You’ll only need to do this once or twice. If you have long nails, the stick makes it easier to take the paste from the jar. Simply take a small dab and wipe it on the pad of your index and middle fingers and gently rub into your armpit.

Q. What kind of essential oils do you use?

A. We only use 100% organic and pure therapeutic grade essential oils. These are the highest quality available.

Q. What are the actions of each ingredient?

A. Great question! Below is a breakdown of each ingredient and why we use it. The basis for the formula is in the first 3 ingredients. Used independently they are ineffective. However, the combination of the 3 is what makes this formulation so powerful. While the actions of each ingredient are not exhaustive, we will give the highlights of each to clarify the most important benefits.

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil: The health benefits of coconut oil are manifold. One can simply Google this miracle oil to see the overwhelming data on its medicinal and nutritive qualities. These benefits can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal and antibacterial properties. Coconut plays a significant roll in fighting underarm bacteria produced in sweat.

Sodium Bicarbonate: SB is well known for its ability to neutralize foul odors. Need we say more?

Arrowroot Powder: The starch derived from the tuber of the Arrowroot plant. We believe this to be the highest quality of starch available. Its use in this formula is for the absorption of moisture. This helps minimize the effects of sweating. It does not keep the body from sweating; it simply helps to absorb moisture.

Bees Wax: We use real beeswax in our jar formulas to help keep a more consistent structure. As is naturally inherent in coconut oil, it melts at 76 degrees. Adding the beeswax helps bring a more uniform consistency through changing and varied weather conditions. While your product will soften in warmer climates and be more firm in cold, you can be assured that we have improved the quality of the product by adding this fantastic nutritive ingredient in order to not compromise on quality or effectiveness. In fact, bees wax is a natural moisturizer and contains vitamin E, which is a wonderful skin nutrient.

For our vegan friends, our stick formula a completely vegan! We use Candellila Wax in that formula.

Candelilla Wax: We use natural, 100% plant derived Candelilla Wax, in our Stick formula to help keep a more consistent structure. Coconut Oil melts at 76 degrees which causes a need for a stabilizer so we add Candelilla Wax to help bring a more uniform consistency through changing and varied weather conditions. While your product will soften in warmer climates and be more firm in cold, you can be assured that we have improved the quality of the product by adding this fantastic nutritive ingredient in order to not compromise on quality or effectiveness. In fact, Candelilla Wax is a wonderful skin conditioner and is rich in nutrients.

Vitamin E Oil: Vitamin E oil is known for its antioxidant properties and it’s ability to heal the skin. Though the benefits of Vitamin E on the skin are praised, it is also known for its preservative capabilities. In keeping with the purity standards of our products, we chose Vitamin E Oil as the best option for maintaining its freshness and a longer shelf life.

Essential Oils: We use the highest grade available: 100% USDA certified organic,  therapeutic grade. As ingestible essential oils go, therapeutic is the only grade that is universally accepted as safe to ingest. We believe that since your skin absorbs as much as 60% of what you put on it, we should only put in our products what would be safe to put in it. These oils are what we use to scent them. While they smell amazing in the jar, they do not linger on the body because they are quickly absorbed into the skin. Consequently, they will not conflict with any perfumes you may wish to wear. The exception to the rule is Patchouli. This essential oil has a very strong scent and tends to stay with you for several hours. This is a great thing for you Patchouli lovers!

Essential Oils are also healing, therapeutic and nutritive.

Q. Does CocoPits travel well?

A. While we have packaged our products in high quality containers with anti-leak lids that keep the product in the jar, we recommend packing it into a plastic bag in order to keep from accidental leakage. We cannot guarantee that altitude changes and extreme heat will not affect this possibility. All of our deodorant containers are TSA approved, which means they may be taken aboard the plane (carryon luggage, purse, etc.).

Q. Will the coconut oil in CocoPits stain my clothing?

A. Unless you pack gobs into your pit, the answer is no. The oil helps the product to glide on easily, but is quickly absorbed into the skin. If you've ever experienced yellow stains in your shirts in the pit area, this is a result of sweat and will occur with any type of deodorant as long as you produce sweat. We recommend that you simply spray your shirts with a prewash or stain remover prior to washing.

Q. Does CocoPits really work?

A. Oh yes it sure does! We have exhausted just about every natural deodorant out there and have not found one that can meet or beat CocoPits ability to deodorize. In fact, it stands up to any deodorant out there, alternative or not! We are so confident in it’s effectiveness and quality that we offer a 100% money back guarantee. Simply return it in its original container with the original receipt of purchase and we will refund you completely for what you paid for the product. We want you to have very happy pits!

Q. Is this formula for both men and women? Is it safe for older children or teens?

A. The answer is yes to all! You can rest assured that this product is safe for anyone and strong enough for you burly guys! We have formulated a more masculine smelling one for men in a scent that both men and women alike enjoy: Woodland.

Q. How long will it last?

A. This is a two-fold answer. The 2-oz. jar will last about 8-10 months; the 10ml, about 4-6 weeks, depending on how much you’re using. The stick formula is an average of 4-10 months. We recommend starting small: 1-2 swipes for the stick and a tiny lentil sized dab for the jar.

As far as how many hours it will work per application, it should last you the entire day, and often right through the night. Some report that they have gone two days without stinking.

Q. What is the shelf life of CocoPits?

A. It is best to use your CocoPits within 1 year of opening.

Q. Is it supposed to sting?

A. Some people experience a slight stinging sensation the first few applications. Don’t worry…this will pass. Your pits are getting used to a new product. In most cases, it is due to the Ph. level of the sodium bicarbonate. This will pass by weeks’ end. In rare cases, you may be experiencing pit detox. Read below for more info on that.

Q. I’m stinking more. Why?

A. A few people go through a pit detox period where toxins are finally able to be released. These toxins stink, as you can imagine. Give it some time. This will pass.

Q. Does it cause yellow stains in my shirt?

A. As with any “deodorant”, it is possible that you may develop a yellowish stain in your shirt. This is actually not attributed to your deodorant but to sweat. These stains are easily removed with a good stain-removing product and are applied prior to each washing.

Q. What if my CocoPits melts?

A. Due to the nature of coconut oil that melts above 76°, the product will become softer and may melt in extremely hot conditions (130°+). Simply use your stick applicator that came with your product to stir it and pop it into the fridge for about a half hour.

CocoPits Stick can also soften during the summer months. If this happens, we recommend that you keep the stick turned down to the lowest setting and apply this way. This will prevent excess application.

Q. What if I develop a rash?

A. This usually occurs for one of six reasons:

  1. Excessive sweating. You may be experiencing a pit detox that has you sweating out lots of extra sweat for a small period of time. This generally passes in a few days/weeks.
Also, excessive sweating (Hyper Hidrosis) can cause irritation when skin rubs on skin. This can result in a rash. Another reason is the chemistry between the bacteria on the skin meeting the sweat. We recommend using Pitty Party on days when a rash occurs to encourage rapid healing. Pitty Party is also naturally antibacterial which may help deodorize while healing.
  2. Reapplying without washing in between applications. It is best to apply CocoPits to clean skin. For those with sensitive skin, it is best to go to bed with freshly cleaned pits, giving them a time to rest and rejuvenate.
  3. Excessive rubbing may cause irritation, especially if applied to a freshly shaven pit. Be sure to rub gently into armpit until just lightly coated and not continue to rub beyond a simple application. It is fine to apply to freshly shaven pits. You may experience a tingling sensation the first few days. However, your pits will soon get used to it and the tingling will wane.
  4. Applying too much product. Use a very small dab with our jar formulas and gently rub into each clean armpit. For our Stick formulas, 1-2 swipes is usually all you need, maybe 3 in the warmer or more active months. This is a very common reason for developing a rash. Your armpit is a warm, moist environment and applying too much product can become an irritant. CocoPits is not like most deodorants; a little goes a long way.
  5. You may be experiencing pit detox. On rare occasion, some experience this effect. Years of accumulated toxins are being released due to prolonged use of deodorants and/or antiperspirants that keep your body from sweating (usually aluminum). Sweating is a good thing since this is one of your bodys' ways of releasing bacteria and normal waste that comes through the sweat glands. Now your pits are able to breath. This usually only lasts for a few days (and up to 3 weeks) then begins to clear up. In rare cases (depending on severity of toxin buildup), detoxing could take several weeks. Pitty Party will be your BFF through this season.
  6. Razor burn. Freshly shaved pits or razor burn may cause irritation. We recommend those with sensitive skin or are prone to razor burn showering the night before and applying in the morning. Pitty Party helps expedite healing if this develops and may be used in place of your deodorant until irritation passes. It has a mild deodorizing effect as well.
  7. Ingredient sensitivity. If you have a sensitivity or allergy to one of the ingredients, this can cause an inflammatory response. We recommend that you test the product on your forearm before applying to your pits if you suspect sensitivity. If a rash develops, discontinue use of the product. If no rash develops there but did in your pits, chances are you are experiencing a response due to one of the reasons noted above. If you're unsure, leave the product on your forearm for the day to see if a response occurs at some point.

You can let your pits rest a couple of days to let this pass and resume when cleared up. You can also treat your pits with witch hazel, organic virgin coconut oil, or aloe or Colloidal Silver to bring relief and expedite healing. Pitty Party is also a great treatment for that.

Q. What is sodium bicarbonate and is it safe?

A. Sodium bicarbonate is also known as baking soda. It is perfectly safe (in appropriate quantities) to ingest or put on the skin. There are two types of sodium bicarbonate: naturally sourced and lab created. Both are completely safe and both of ours are certified by the NSF (your assurance that the product has been tested by one of the most respected independent certification organizations in existence today. It is valued by consumers, manufacturers, retailers and regulatory agencies worldwide.). They are food grade for use in food as well as cosmetic and personal care products and and is within NOP standards for organic production. There is no aluminum in sodium bicarbonate.

We use the naturally mined sodium bicarbonate in our “Natural” unscented CocoPits.

Q. My CocoPits seems to be a slightly different color than last time. Why?

A. Variations in color is naturally occurring due to the organic nature of the ingredients. Both arrowroot and beeswax can vary in color depending on when it was grown and harvested. There will be no difference in the effectiveness of your CocoPits.

Q. My CocoPits has developed tiny crystallines. Why?

A. If your CocoPits has had some extreme temperature variations, you may see it develop tiny crystallines. This does not affect the effectiveness of the product but may not be as smooth as desired when applying. To remedy this, you may gently warm your jar and stir until these disappear. The jar can be placed in a very warm area such as a windowsill, car or dehydrator until melted. A microwave may also be used on a low setting for 10 seconds at a time to achieve a liquid state. Do not overheat (over 180°). Place jar in a cool place to before applying. Room temp is fine or a refrigerator (for half hour).

Q. Is CocoPits certified organic?

A. All of our ingredients are certified organic (in the case of sodium bicarbonate, it is NSF certified which means it is within NOP* standards for organic production). We are not yet a certified organic facility but are working towards that end! Beeswax cannot be certified organic due to the nature of bees wandering. We do, however, choose producers that keep their bees on organic farms and are meticulous about providing enough foliage for the bees not to be inclined to roam to outlying areas.
